Study and Student Loan

As of April 21, 2020, new regulations (Cabinet of Ministers No. 231) regarding the crediting of studies and students in Latvia from credit institution funds, guaranteed by state budget funds, have come into effect.

Process for obtaining study and student loan:

  • Sign a study agreement.
  • Make the initial payment of the study fee.
  • Upon receiving your first payment, the college will enroll you. Information about all enrolled students will be forwarded to the State Education Information System (VIIS). This process may take up to 10 working days.
  • The bank will gain access to VIIS information.
  • Contact the bank to apply for a state-guaranteed study or student loan.

The requirement for a co-guarantor has been waived; instead, the financial institution "Altum" provides the guarantee.

The maximum amount of the study loan can equal the tuition fee.

Moreover, 30% of the remaining student loan amount will be forgiven for both parents upon the birth of a child.
